Seychelles: Stunning Views Victoria, Mahe, Seychelles
Sea Date April 4, 2024
During sail in we got a hint of the beauty of the island.
Today, the group rented a driver/guide who drove us around the island to see all the majestic views. We drove into downtown Victoria and at my request made a brief stop at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cathedral.
Views every turn! Seychelles are known for the massive boulders on the fine sand beaches. We took a short climb over the rocks to a lovely lookout. Then up the forested mountains for more views. Copolia Nature Trail. At the top we saw the coco de mer, the Palm tree with the largest seed in the plant kingdom. Legends_of_the_coco_de_mer. Because of its unique shape, it is referred to as the butt nut.
Lunch on the back porch of Del Place. More views.
Interesting flora, birds and giant tortoises as we traversed the island.
Another Catholic Church, St. Francis of Assisi where a surprise wedding had been planned, We were so lucky to attend Doug and Elizabeth's small ceremony. A joyous occasion.
Quick stop at Bwar Dan Banbou for a simple wedding celebration with many Sey Brews.
Walk past a reflecting pond to a tree tiki bar. Maybe the smallest bar I have ever seen, A gas generator was fired up whenever a blender was needed.
Back to the port and a goodbye to Derrick, our great guide.
Quite a steep hiking trail.
Goodbye, Derrick. It was good to know you! Thanks, Lydia.
