Hong Kong Day 1
Sea Date March 16, 2024
A looong day in Hong Kong.
Morning. Man Mo Temple built in 1847. Houses the Gods of Literature and Martial Arts. Many families come here to pray for their children to do well on exams.
Then Repulse Bay, an expensive enclave.
Shopping at Stanley Market.
A ride on a junk in Aberdeen. For centuries, the junks were home to thousands of poor Chinese fishermen and traders. Today very few still live on them. Very few offer tourists rides.
A trip up to Victoria's Peak. Some of the most expensive real estate in the world.
Then a ride on the longest escalator system in the world. Soho for lunch at a British pub. Walk through Soho markets.
Star Ferry ride. Cultural Center and The Peninsula.
Hong Kong at night. A disaster. Arlene didn't want to do the day tour, just joining us at night. Monica, Kevin and Karen did a different day tour, We were all to meet at Temple Street Market at a restaurant. Little did I know Temple Street Market does not really have addresses. It was a nightmare. Arlene arrived about 1 1/2 hours late. I was worried but confident in Arlene's ability. Our guide was beside himself. A Chinese couple adopted Arlene and walked her all through the market. I stationed my chair so I could see the street and spotted her walking by! All's well that ends well.
Dinner in Temple Street.
The laser light show - a little disappointing because of the fog, haze, smog?
Shopping in the Ladies Market after dark.
