March 19, Da Nang,I never wanted to visit Vietnam.  Vietnam

Good morning,  Vietnam. To me it was such a sad time in history. But I have heard wonderful stories from people who have visited in the last few years.

Well, we had a delightful visit. The people are friendly and welcoming.  The economy is growing and the people seem to have many opportunities and freedoms.

We started with a visit to the 18th-century Ling Ung pagoda on Son Tra peninsula (Monkey Mountain), with its spectacular 210 feet high ‘Lady Buddha’ overlooking the East Sea with Cham Islands in the distance.

Then to Marble Mountain. The Viet Cong used this as a place to shelter troops and as a hospital for the wounded. For years, the US had no idea these caves even existed.

From there we went to what we call China Beach and the Vietnamese now call "Little Miami Beach ". Once an R&R spot now a beautiful beach resort area. We went to a restaurant with plastic bins in water filled with a large selection of seafood.  You point to what you want and pick it up and carry it live to the kitchen. I went with a crab, Jim shrimp, and the others a large grouper. FRESH!

Then we went to Ba Na Hills Sun World and the Golden Bridge. It is a mini mini Disney World. A resort with amusements. The bridge was cool despite being very touristy.

Our evening was spent in Hoi An. A magical, ancient city glowing in the dark. Great coconut drink at the restaurant. I didn't have any plans to go to Hoi An but Alexandria said I must. Great advice.  It is a magical lantern town.

At night, they require you to park outside the city and take golf carts in and out. We walked around the town. Had Vietnamese pancakes for dinner. Karen got a mani pedi. I got a foot massage. Made it back for Tian's 9:30 pm concert.
