Sea Days on the way to Japan
February 20,21,22
Our new cruise entertainment director, Philip, was a Broadway actor and producer in an earlier life. He actually produced John Water's Cry-Baby on Broadway. He gave a lecture on South Pacific. I was in heaven. Mary, I got to raise my hand when he asked who had seen the Lincoln Center production. A few days later he spoke about other musicals by Rodgers and Hammerstein. He had great behind the scenes stories.
Our young, Japanese student gave us an introduction to Japanese and a lecture on a Japanese dance that is based in Sapporo. She is a leader and performer in one of the dance troops.
Dinner in Canaletto with Jessica and Bruce.
Entertainment: Venus Tsai, a violinist and Syan, a Japanese balloon artist.
February 21 was A Night of Music. The best entertainment evening in all my cruise ship days.
The artists, mixed it up and co-ordinated their own performances. Classical cello player and rock singer - Stairway to Heaven was eerily beautiful. Jazz pianist played with the stage band while their piano player switched instruments. Dueling piano players sang with rock band. Drummer sang. Bass player sang a William Shatner version of Elton John of Rocket Man. Rock singers on main stage. Dancers on the dance floor in Rolling Stone venue. It was a party all over the ship!
Philip, entertainment director.
