3 Sea Days and 1 Captain's Dinner
January 31 - February 3, 2024
We are sailing the Pacific to Hawaii. Attending many lectures on the history, geography, culture, agriculture and flora and fauna of the islands. The navigation skills of the ancient Polynesians were quite remarkable and many of the island are attempting to keep these skills alive. One interesting fact - when Captain Cook arrived in 1778, it was estimated 1 million natives lived on the islands. The diseases that came with "discovery" killed 80 to 90% of the population.
Fabulous entertainment continues on board. I took some Latin line dancing classes.
I had become friends with Alexandra, the captain's wife during the early part of the cruise. She and Captain Frank kindly invited us and our merry band to cocktails and dinner with them. It was a theme night - The Great Gatsby - so we were all quite spiffy. After dinner there was dancing on the Lido and a speakeasy in the Crow's Nest. Doug and Elizabeth won the dance contest!!!
The suspects in the jewelry theft.
A fun evening.
